Chartered Institute of Linguists Hong Kong Society (CIOLHKS)

The Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL) is UK's only national and international body serving professional linguists (translators, interpreters, language educationalists and those in business, the professions and government). Founded in 1910, CIOL is now the leading language professional body in UK and one of the most significant language institutions in the world, with its qualifications internationally recognised. The Hong Kong Society of CIOL (CIOLHKS) was established in 1984. It is committed to promoting professional use of languages in Hong Kong. It organises professional development functions for local members and the public, and offers consultancy services to education institutions and schools both in Hong Kong and China. The Hong Kong Society is now the biggest regional society of the Chartered Institute of Linguists.

Hong Kong Shue Yan University

Shue Yan is the first private university in Hong Kong. The Department of English Language and Literature was established at the inception of what was then Shue Yan College in 1971. The department has placed an emphasis on interdisciplinarity over the past ten years and has been able to attract students who are both linguistically competent and culturally sensitive. The department’s Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English programme contains four strands: English Literature, Linguistics, Translation and Cultural Studies, with the ‘interdisciplinary’ elements of the programme performing the role of bridging between the strands. The department also launched its accredited MPhil and PhD programmes in English from the 2018-19 academic year that provide supervision on research projects spanning applied linguistics and translation studies, as well as literature and cultural studies.

Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi)

The Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) offers professional "Applied Science-Oriented" degree programmes for work-ready graduates, forging industrial collaborations, broadening students' horizons, to meet industry needs. Our programmes across six academic areas: Product and Fashion Designs, Sports and International Events Management, Digital Construction and Building Services, Horticulture, Arboriculture and Landscape Management, Chinese Medicine and Food Science and Hotel Management and Culinary Arts and Technology, featuring the synthesis of knowledge acquisition and practical applications, enable students to grow into the graduates with professional competence. Established in 2002, the College of Professional and Continuing Education (CPCE) is one of the largest self-financing tertiary education institutions in Hong Kong, with over 11,000 full-time students enrolling in nearly 80 bachelor’s degree, associate degree, and higher diploma programmes. Hosting 12 full-time and part-time programmes spanning the disciplines of bilingual studies, communication, and languages, the Division of Languages and Communication (LC) of CPCE is committed to the pursuit of excellence in learning and teaching for the benefits of its students ­– by offering them enriching learning experiences and helping them attain academic, literacy and language standards required for further study and career development.
